Flo Milli just had a baby — and then hit the stage like nothing happened. And while some folks are celebrating her strength and hustle, others are big mad.

The 25-year-old Alabama rapper surprised fans on April 25 by posting a photo on Instagram cradling her newborn son. “& y’all better not play bout y’all internet nephew,” she captioned the post, making it clear she’s stepping into motherhood on her own terms.

But not long after her announcement, a clip of Flo Milli performing at the RiverBeat Music Festival went viral — and that’s when the drama started. People flooded social media with hot takes, criticizing her for being back on stage so soon after giving birth.

“Flo Milli being a week post-partum and performing at a concert makes me sad,” one user wrote. Another added, “She needs to stay at home for at least two months to recover… why is she working already???”

But not everyone saw it as a problem.

Many fans rushed to her defense, saying if she wanted to perform, that’s her decision — period. “Who said she was forced?” one person tweeted. “Maybe she just wanted to get back to doing what she loves.”

Others pointed out the double standard, especially for Black women. “When Cardi B popped out at Fashion Week a week after giving birth, everyone was hyped,” someone wrote. “But Flo Milli does one set and suddenly it’s a problem?”

This isn’t the first time a celebrity mom has gone back to work shortly after giving birth — Cardi B, Victoria Beckham, and Gigi Hadid all returned to the spotlight within weeks or months.

So why the outrage when it’s Flo?

At the end of the day, the real conversation is about agency. Black women, especially, are constantly policed on how they mother, how they work, and how they move.

Whether Flo Milli wants to rest or rock a stage — that’s her choice.
