R&B vet Tank shook the table this week when he hopped on Instagram and dropped his updated list of top R&B vocalists — and let’s just say, he had time.
Tank split the list into male and female categories and made it clear this wasn’t just about who we like — it was about vocal ability. He broke it down by range, control, dynamics, and agility. In other words, who’s really singin’ out here, not just making hits.
For the fellas, Tank paid respect to legends like Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Uncle Charlie Wilson, while also giving flowers to current stars like Usher, Chris Brown, and yep — he even put himself on there (and honestly, he earned it).
On the ladies’ side, it was nothing but powerhouse voices: Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Chaka Khan, Celine Dion, Brandy, and Beyoncé all made the cut.
But what really had folks talking was when Tank called out one of the most heated debates in R&B fan circles.
“Stop saying R. Kelly is a better singer than Usher! HE IS NOT,” Tank wrote. “And that’s saying a lot coming from me, because Kellz is my favorite artist. But this ain’t about favorites.”
