Lil Wayne is officially done with the Super Bowl. After being snubbed for the 2025 halftime show in his own hometown of New Orleans, Weezy says he’s no longer checking for the NFL — and he definitely didn’t watch Kendrick Lamar’s record-breaking performance.
In his latest Rolling Stone cover story, Tunechi opened up about how the whole thing went down — and let’s just say, he’s still feeling a way about it.
“They coulda had some music. But instead, they got rappin’,” he said about Kendrick’s set.
“They f–ked up.”
For context, the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show went to Kendrick, who hit the stage at the Caesars Superdome in NOLA — Wayne’s own backyard. Right after the announcement, Wayne took to Instagram saying he felt “hurt” by the decision, and now he’s confirming he’s done ever trying to be part of the Big Game moving forward.
Even though he didn’t name names, Wayne claims some folks from the NFL eventually reached out to him after the decision, basically telling him, “That wasn’t us.” According to him, they said they weren’t in charge of who gets picked.
But let’s be real — we all know Jay-Z and Roc Nation have been running the halftime show lineup since 2019. Still, Wayne says he’s got no beef with Hov or Kendrick, despite feeling passed over.
“All of a sudden, according to them, they got curved,” Wayne said. “So, I’m just gonna have to settle with whatever they say.”
Meanwhile, Kendrick’s show broke records, pulling in 133.5 million viewers, the most-watched Super Bowl halftime show ever.
He performed tracks from his GNX album and shut it down with “Not Like Us,” his viral Drake diss that had the whole internet talking.
But for Wayne, it’s not about the numbers — it’s about the respect. He’s one of the most influential rappers of all time, especially in the South, and to get passed up in his own city? Yeah, that hit different.
So while the world may be tuning in to Super Bowl halftime shows, don’t expect to see Lil Wayne on that stage. Ever.
