MOVIE ROUNDUP: Lupita Nyong'o's Star Wars Character Revealed & More

Don’t expect Lupita Nyong’o grace the screen with her regal flawlessness in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Entertainment Weekly reports that she’ll simply be supplying the voice for a character named Maz Kanata, which will be CGI.

Not much is known about the character’s story–or which side she’ll be on, but it is being reported that Maz is a pirate.

Ava Duvernay Recruits For AFFRM

Ava Duvernay is looking for more rebels to join the ranks of the AFFRM. The “Selma” director has just launched the second annual membership drive for her grassroots film collective.

The 30-day initiative runs until June 5, and membership comes with perks like access to special screenings and exclusive Google Hangouts with industry experts.

Since its inception in 2011, AFFRM has released eight films and built up an impressive roster of members, including Anika Noni Rose and David Oyelowo. Check out who else is part of AFFRM in the video below, and click here for more information about joining up!

New Line Cinema has finally decided when “Barbershop 3″ will be coming out, but you’ll be waiting a while to see it.

According to Variety.com, the third installment in Ice Cube’s family comedy series is slated for a February 19, 2016 release. We’ll see if that gets moved around as the deadline approaches.

So far Cedric The Entertainer, Nicki Minaj, Anthony Anderson, Regina Bell and Common have all been linked to the film. This is shaping up to be an interesting production, but we’ll reserve judgment until after we see the first trailer.
