Season three of “Scandal” seems to have taken a major detour from the show’s original blueprint and this wouldn’t be a problem, but unfortunately we can’t say that the detour that they’ve decided to take has made the show any better.
We’re hoping that after this hiatus we’ll get back on track and these are just some of the things we really want to see when the show returns in the new year:
In the episode “Everything’s Coming Up Mellie” we saw that before Fitz had become Governor Mellie got raped by his father Jerry Grant then used it to get him to support his son in his campaign. While this was a very misguided attempt to get people to sympathize with a character who’s been a thorn in the audience’s side since her marriage to Fitz makes it impossible for him and Olivia Pope to be together, it was still her story and sadly it hasn’t been brought up since the episode aired.
There hasn’t been a single mention of it and it’s hard to even believe Mellie is a victim of sexual assault when she continues to be just as vicious as ever when it come to making sure her husband stays in the White House. The point is, the rape was a huge thing that happened and we’d like to know where it will lead.

2. Let’s See Those Damn Kids Already!
This goes hand in hand with the Mellie rape story line from “Everything’s Coming Up Mellie“. At the end of the episode it’s revealed that she’s pregnant after she and Fitz had been trying, implying that their son might actually be Jerry’s son. Like the rape this story line has disappeared from the face of the universe.
That being said, we have never laid eyes on these children. They’re supposed to be in boarding school and don’t really seem to get along with their parents or want to get involved in their ridiculous lives, but you’d think they’d make the trip from school tot he Whitehouse to at least see their little brother. Apparently not. Hopefully these children will come into existence before the end of the season.

3. Olivia Needs To Get Back To Actually FIXING Things
Remember when this show was about Olivia Pope and her army of Gladiators that were able to solve any problem thrown their way? Yeah they haven’t done that at all this season. I’d go so far as to say that they’re causing more problems then they’re solving right now.
They freed Olivia’s mom a national terrorist, they ruined a Josie Marcus’ life by revealing her sister was her daughter, their personal lives and sanity seem to be dwindling and none of this is making them better at their jobs. I hope that before this season ends Olivia Pope and her team will return to what made this show so much fun to watch in the first place: actually fixing other people’s problems.

4. Harrison’s Past
Ok, this is a really weird one. Remember when Cyrus was calling Harrison in “Icarus” and telling him to do whatever it took to get Olivia to stop working for Josie Marcus, the congress woman who everyone thought was going to destroy Fitz? Yeah, he threatened Harrison with releasing a prisoner who Harrison seemed to have some sort of “if this guy gets out I’m dead” history.
Harrison refused to manipulate Olivia and Cyrus called to have the prisoner released anyway. This would be fine and dandy if Congressman Marcus was still on the show, but she’s not anymore and now it seems like Cyrus had that prisoner released for no reason. We don’t know if he’s out or if he’s coming for Harrison or what. Harrison hasn’t mentioned him, no one has mentioned him!
What’s up with this prisoner? Do we need to be afraid or not?

5. Why Is Quinn Still Here?
That might seem rude, but seriously: What is Quinn still doing here?
When Scandal started we saw the world of Olivia Pope and the Gladiators through her eyes and that was fine, but then season 1′s finale happened and everything changed. Apparently Quinn wasn’t actually Quinn and there was a massive scandal surrounding her.
The problem: Quinn’s story was resolved in the first episode of the 2nd season. Yes it was resolved in 1 episode. Sure there were others revealing the scandal that ruined her life, but they weren’t about her, they were about Olivia, Mellie, Verna, Cyrus and Hollis rigging the election so Fitz would win. After that Quinn’s story was done and we didn’t care anymore.
They’ve tried to make us interested in her but I have to be honest, whenever I watch this show the Quinn parts are always the ones I skip over. I just don’t care about her.

6. David Needs To Stop Being Such a Doormat
Last season David Rosen took on the Whitehouse and Olivia Pope, he paid dearly for it but eventually got everything he wanted in the end, including Abby as his girlfriend. The problem with this? Well like Quinn, David has been left with nothing to do since he got his job back and the only times he shows up are when Abby wants something from him.
That wouldn’t be such a problem, if David didn’t give her whatever she wants every single time! David has done things that the past him wouldn’t have even dreamed of just because Abby’s sleeping with him and these actions have lead to Olivia’s mom (A Terrorist!) getting free. David really needs to start standing up for himself and soon or he’s going to end up behind bars over his next favor to Olivia Pope and Associates. I mean Abby can’t be that good in bed.

7. Olivia Needs To Stop Dating
So I know you all love you Olitz but the truth of the matter is Olivia Pope needs to stop dating. First it’s the President of the United State, then it’s poor Senator Edison Davis and now it’s Jake Ballard who works for B613. I really think Olivia needs to stop seeing all of these men romantically and focus on herself and her job, if she was my friend I’d tell her she needs to take a long relaxing trip because if she keeps going on like this no good will come of it.
Hopefully Olivia will take some time to figure herself out and maybe as an audience we’ll get the chance to see more of the real Olivia Pope, at least one who isn’t defined by the men she’s sleeping with.
